Erykah Badu – Mama's Gun | 2xLP Vinyl

Erykah Badu’s Mama’s Gun brings together warm soul, loose-limbed funk, jazz textures, and hip-hop rhythms with a deeply personal lyrical voice. “Penitentiary Philosophy” opens with restless energy before “Didn’t Cha Know?” settles into a hypnotic groove. “Cleva” pairs an easy swing with self-assured storytelling, while “Bag Lady” turns emotional baggage into one of the album’s most memorable hooks. Throughout, Badu’s phrasing moves naturally between intimate reflection and playful confidence.

The album rewards listening beyond its singles: “Orange Moon” unfolds with a spacious, late-night feel, “In Love with You” features Stephen Marley, and the expansive closing “Green Eyes” moves through shifting moods and arrangements. Presented across two vinyl LPs, Mama’s Gun is a rich full-album listen for fans of neo-soul, thoughtful songwriting, and grooves that take their time.
